Get Connected

When someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s, we have found it extremely comforting and helpful to get connected with others in similar situations. We also understand that during the diagnosis process, hundreds of questions and concerns arise. We want to help by not only providing support, but also the resources to have a better understanding of what having Parkinson’s disease means.

Next Meeting: June 17th, 2pm-3:00pm

Save the Date for  KU Parkinson’s Symposium July 26th

First Presbyterian Church
2415 Clinton Parkway
Lawrence, KS

Enter at south door (under blue awning) of church

Our speaker will be Jamie Guild from Medtronics who will share new information about DBS.
Deep Brain Stimulation is used to treat Parkinson’s Disease through an implanted device that stimulates the brain to improve a PD patient’s motor function.  DBS has been FDA approved in the US and used by doctors all over the world since Medtronic invented the therapy in 1997.
About 6 weeks ago, the FDA approved the world’s first Adaptive DBS system for patients with PD.  This new DBS system is the first and only DBS system that uses BrainSense™ technology to automatically adjust therapeutic stimulation to maximize motor symptom control throughout the day and night or in other words, this new Adaptive DBS system automatically increases stimulation when the patient needs it and automatically decreases stimulation when the patient does not need it. We should learn something new!

Parkinson’s Symposium is one month earlier this year so mark your calendar for July 26th. Please contact us if you would like to ride on the bus.
